Another popular heirloom variety, Winesap is a superb all-purpose variety. For long-term storage, select fruit that are free of any cracks on the surface. If you plant a Winesap tree at home you'll need two other varieties to pollinate it as its pollen is self-sterile. Neighboring crabapple trees will suffice if you don't have the room for other trees.
